Lahore (September 30, 2025): Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has strongly responded to statements made by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders, alleging that their stance on flood politics was inspired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to ARY News, tensions between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and PPP escalated after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s recent remarks on building canals in the province and her controversial slogan “Mera Pani Meri Marzi” (My water, my choice). Following her statement, PPP members not only boycotted the National Assembly but also threatened to withdraw support from the federal government.
In the assembly session, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar apologized to PPP lawmakers over Maryam Nawaz’s remarks. However, during her address in Chakwal today, the Punjab Chief Minister once again criticized the PPP, prompting Uzma Bukhari’s latest reaction.
Maryam Nawaz Hits Back: “Punjab’s Money, Punjab’s Right – Why the Objection?”
Bukhari asserted that Punjab has the first right over its resources and water before anyone else. She went further, questioning whether the PPP’s approach to flood politics was influenced by Modi.
The Punjab Information Minister accused PPP of fueling ethnic and provincial divisions, stating:
“Issues should be discussed in the assembly. But if dead politics on Punjab’s floods is carried out through the media, then the response will also come through the media.”
She further said that PPP was uncomfortable with the progress Maryam Nawaz was delivering in Punjab. “In Sindh, the same family has been ruling for two decades, yet what services have they provided? We know that too. The reality is that now even the people of Sindh are calling out to Maryam Nawaz.”
