President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Gilgit-Baltistan joined Pakistan through a historic struggle in 1947, while the freedom of occupied Kashmir remains the need of the hour.
Speaking at a ceremony celebrating the liberation of Gilgit-Baltistan from Dogra rule, the President commended the bravery and sacrifices of the people, saying, “History will never forget your courage. In 1947, you fought a jihad and sacrificed over 1,700 soldiers for Pakistan.”
He emphasized that Gilgit-Baltistan deserves modern education and healthcare facilities. Every valley, he said, should have schools, as the region is rich in minerals and blessed with natural beauty. He added that tourism can be a major source of progress and even proposed that Gilgit-Baltistan should have its own airline to boost connectivity.
Highlighting the ongoing human rights situation in India, President Zardari stated that Muslims in India are facing severe persecution and the genocide of Kashmiris has reached alarming levels. He reiterated that the freedom of occupied Jammu and Kashmir is essential and long overdue, as the region continues to suffer under Indian oppression.
The President also spoke about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a “symbol of Pakistan’s progress.” He said, “China is our trusted partner, and CPEC Phase-II is moving forward successfully.”
Concluding his remarks, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed his vision for a prosperous Gilgit-Baltistan, saying, “When Gilgit-Baltistan develops, Pakistan develops.
