FIA Files Case Against Former FBR Chief Shabbar Zaidi

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed a case against former FBR chairman Shabbar Zaidi. He is accused of misusing his official powers during his tenure.

According to reports, the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle has lodged a case against former Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi. The case alleges that Zaidi authorized the release of Rs16 billion without proper approval.

The investigation report claims the amount was issued to banks and several private companies. Some of these companies were reportedly clients of Shabbar Zaidi before his appointment as FBR chairman.

The FIR states that Zaidi, along with other officials, allegedly misused his position between May 10, 2019, and January 6, 2020. During this period, unauthorized tax refunds and payments were released to selected firms.

Authorities say the released funds were not processed through the proper approval system. This raised questions about compliance with government financial procedures.

An investigation team, led by Assistant Director Nandlal, has been formed to look into the allegations. The team will review the financial transactions and examine whether any laws were violated.

The FIA has emphasized that the inquiry is at an initial stage. No final conclusion has been reached, and the accused will have the right to present their defense as per legal procedures.
