Power Shortages Hit Gilgit-Baltistan Amid Water Scarcity and Climate Change

Gilgit-Baltistan :
Gilgit-Baltistan is facing significant power shortages due to water scarcity and the impacts of climate change, causing severe difficulties for local residents.

The Electricity Department has urged citizens to avoid using non-essential electrical appliances, especially geysers, heaters, and heavy machinery, to ensure fair distribution of electricity during the winter season.

Officials emphasized that responsible energy use is crucial in managing the limited power supply, particularly as temperatures drop and demand rises. Local communities are being encouraged to adopt energy-saving practices to mitigate the effects of the ongoing shortage.

The department also warned that continued high electricity consumption could lead to prolonged outages, affecting households, businesses, and essential services across the region.
