Background
A few days earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a 20-point peace proposal for the Gaza conflict, giving Hamas an ultimatum until Sunday to respond. Reports suggest that Hamas has shown a positive reaction to several clauses of the plan, which prompted Israel to step back from its full-scale takeover of Gaza.
Following this response, hopes have risen for a comprehensive ceasefire and the release of hostages. Diplomats expect that the coming days will be crucial in turning this opportunity into lasting peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded his statement by saying that Pakistan stands firmly with Palestine, and will continue to work with all partners to ensure “peace, justice, and freedom for the people of Gaza.”
