Islamabad: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a thunderstorm alert for flights in the federal capital as bad weather continues to disrupt air travel. Multiple domestic and international flights faced cancellations and long delays due to poor weather conditions and operational challenges.
According to airport sources, several Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights were cancelled, including four flights between Islamabad and Gilgit (PK 601, 602, 603, and 604). Similarly, Islamabad to Sukkur flight PK 632 and Sukkur to Karachi flight PK 636 were also cancelled.
Other major disruptions included Karachi to Turbat flights (PK 501 and PK 502), which could not operate due to weather. On the Karachi–Islamabad route, delays ranging from one to nine hours were reported. Islamabad to Karachi flights were delayed by six to seven hours, while incoming flights from Karachi (PK 300 and PK 301) were delayed by around 1.5 hours.
Private airlines were also affected. A private carrier’s Islamabad to Karachi flight PA 201 was delayed by nearly nine hours, while a foreign airline’s Riyadh-bound flight SV 725 from Islamabad faced a massive 11-hour delay.
At Karachi Airport, five flights were delayed between one to four hours, and four private airline flights on the Karachi–Lahore route faced delays ranging from 1.25 to 3.75 hours.
Meanwhile, at Lahore Airport, at least 19 flights were delayed between one to ten hours. The most significant delay was a private airline’s Lahore to Abu Dhabi flight (PA 430), which was held up for 10 hours.
